
“I Love You, Beth Cooper” follows the adventures of a geeky high school valedictorian who decides he has nothing to lose by making a play for the popular cheerleader, declaring his love during the graduation speech.
I Love You, Beth Cooper is Larry Doyle's first novel, published in May 2007. The novel is set on graduation night at fictional Buffalo Glenn High School which name is made of his original high school Buffalo Grove High School. In it, "the class nerd" says that he's in love with popular cheerleader Beth Cooper during his graduation speech. After making this statement, events happen that change their lives forever. The book won the Thurber Prize for American Humor in October 2008.
In early 2008 it was revealed that the book was to be made into a film, with Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere in the title role.Filming began in 2008, with a proposed release in summer 2009.
The movie was filmed at Centennial Secondary School, Magee Secondary School and at St. Patrick's Regional Secondary; which are all located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The teen flick stars Hayden Panettiere, Lauren London, Paul Rust and Lauren Storm. It was based on Larry Doyle’s novel and directed by Chris Columbus. “I Love You, Beth Cooper” is coming in theaters on July 10, 2009.
